Dante/Eiden | T | M/M | Available on AO3!
during an early, lazy morning, eiden finally gets a good look at the array of tattoos across dante's body. while tracing them, he finds out a little secret of the sun lord's.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________After the multiple intimate encounters that the pair had, Eiden hadn’t had the time to fully admire the Sun Lord’s sleeping form. Most times, he’d be up and out of the bedroom at his earliest convenience.
That wasn’t counting the handful of times Eiden had caught the other man staring so lovingly at his own asleep state. Part of him wished that he knew how to stir discreetly enough to still appear unconscious.
The brunet’s eyes watched as Dante’s body rose and fell with each slow, deep breath he made in his sleep. A stark contrast from his grumpier state, who looked as if he was about to burst a blood vessel with almost any nuisance.
It was a contrast that Eiden found endearing. Dante deserved the rest - a break from his strenuous duties as the Sun Lord.
His eyes watched as the tattoos lined across his torso breathed with its owner. They stretched larger upon each inhale, only to deflate slowly after.
The light coloured designs waved at Eiden like an open sea, attracting his gaze like a moth to a flame.
Eiden couldn’t have resisted even if he wanted to. The almost life-like movements of Dante’s tattoos were beautiful. They rose along his body like a sea tide with each breath, beckoning Eiden to touch the sea of body art.
His fingers slid across one of the larger tattoos above the Sun Lord’s pecs, tracing along the triangular shapes like a labyrinth puzzle. His digit stroked against the other’s skin indenting the areas he was touching lightly before he carried on.
Each line was intricate, designing Dante’s body with a sense of purpose, or meaning. The details almost looked like a shield, or a guard to keep wandering hands away from him.
As his fingers traced down to the smaller, yet large semi-circle across Dante’s chest, the other’s body squirmed lightly. A quiet hitched breath could be heard from the space between them.
For a moment, Eiden stopped. His eyes jumped up to look at his partner. How his already-closed eyes had shut themselves tighter, his lips twitching as he turned to lay on his back.
A beat passed. Dante didn’t move. Instead, his snores had turned into soft breaths. Surely, he was still asleep.
Mutely, Eiden breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn’t sure if he could have explained what he was doing if Dante were to have woken up there and then.
His eyes trickled downwards to Dante’s abs, his finger following suit. Gently, it brushed against the two diamond-shaped tattoos across his body.
Dante’s lips quirked upward lazily. “Snkh… Hehe…”
Once more did Eiden’s eyes widen. This time, with a mischievous smirk to boot. Could the Sun Lord himself be... ticklish?
Rhythmically, the brunet wriggled two of his fingers upon the same area. Dante sleepily giggled once more.
Dante’s eyelids opened themselves sleepily. "What are you doing...?" He muttered, his voice laced with sleep.
Eiden couldn't pass this opportunity up. Not while he still had an advantage against Dante.
He flashed the Sun Lord a cheeky grin. “Good morning, Dante~.” He purred out a greeting. “You never told me you were ticklish.”
He watched as confusion washed over Dante’s face - like the other man was questioning what Eiden was going on about this time.
It was quickly replaced by wide eyes, and a shocked expression that Eiden could only interpret as ‘Oh, fuck’.
“You-! That- That’s…!” Dante’s voice began to croak out a response. Another defense.
And knowing Eiden, he was strong enough to burst past them. Persistent, he called it.
Eiden quirked a brow, his mischievous grin growing. “Eh? False theories?” He echoed, and shook his head with a chuckle. “Oh, Sun Lord Dante. I think I’m right.”
As if proving his point, he scribbled his fingers across the younger man’s stomach.
Dante’s stomach body tensed as he reached out a hand to grab at Eiden’s wrist.
“Snkh - Gha-haha..!” His low, charming voice abounded with laughter, as he tried to shift his body further away from the man Dante had (unfortunately) adored.
Eiden tilted his head, his eyes narrowing playfully at him. “You’re already trying to get away?” He asked as he sat up upon the bed. “Tsk, tsk, Dante. I thought my theory was false”
Dante huffed. “I meant to say that it was foolish.”
“Uh huh?” Eiden asked, snickering. “I still want to test my theory. I hope you don’t mind~.”
Without warning, Eiden launched himself onto the Sun Lord.
“Y-You bra-aha-at!” Dante cackled as his hands gripped at the brown-haired man’s arms. His body tried to twist away from Eiden’s assaulting hands as his face buried into the side of a nearby pillow. “I’ll hahave you ha-haha-hanged for this!”
Upon the guffawing Sun Lord was Eiden, his legs planted on either side of the regal man, pinning him to the bed successfully.
Chuckling to himself, his hands spidered against the young Lord’s sides. “Will you now? I don’t think you can~.” He teased, his right hand leering towards his lover’s ribcage. “Not while you’re in this position, anyway~.”
The moment Eiden’s hand made contact with Dante’s ribs, his laughter immediately. jumped up a couple octaves. His grappling hand had shot off from the other’s wrist, and over to the new spot that was under attack. “Nahaha! Get oho-off!” Dante’s head threw itself back as Eiden’s hand clawed at the spaces between his rib-bones. “Ha-HA!”
His teasing was only met with the response of Dante’s laughter - which sounded a tad more frantic when Eiden tickled the untouched set of ribs.
He couldn’t help but smile along, laughing when Dante laughed. It was a sweet, yet rare sight. Usually, the only times he had heard Dante laugh was those occasional chuckles, or a soft snicker of two.
Upon finding this new (rather cute) weakness, Eiden had the chance to hear the man’s unfiltered laughter.
At least, he had that chance.
While being endeared by the sound of the Sun Lord’s laughter, Eiden hadn’t noticed how Dante had gotten the upper hand.
Unceremoniously, Eiden had been pushed onto his back. His left arm and body had been pinned down.
Above him was a red faced, terribly flustered Sun Lord. His eyes were narrowed, locked onto Eiden with intent rather than malice.
“You were… unjustly cruel.” He grumbled, his mismatched eyes staring into his partner’s.
Eiden could only snicker, and roll his eyes. “Cruel? Please, that was the farthest thing from it!” He retorted, and winked up at Dante. “It was worth seeing you laugh like that. I don't think I’ve even seen you smile lately!”
Words choked back in Dante’s throat, his cheeks burning further at the remark. Even then did his gaze soften upon the pinned man. The Grand Sorcerer only grinned up at the red-haired man, as if he realized what he had done.
“Awh, are you touched by that, Sun Lord?” He asked, raising his free hand up to try and tickle the other man once more. “I can continue if you wan– HA?!”
Eiden yelped out a laugh as he felt a fingers roughly spider against his stomach. His eyes widened in shock as he looked down at Dante’s hand. It was in that instant did he know what was happening. Or, what was going to happen.
Upon hearing a low, almost ominous chuckle from Dante, Eiden looked back up at the younger man.
Dante beamed darkly down at the Eiden, mischief surrounding him like Essence had. “You’ve done a great service, Grand Sorcerer.” He spoke, his voice deeper than before. “Allow me to ... return the favour.”
Eiden’s smile quickly turned wobbly, anticipatory laughter ringing through him. “W-Wait, we can talk about this–”
His pleas were interrupted by a loud bark of his own laughter
